Hacienda
Juan Viñas started planting macadamia trees in 1990 in
one of Costa Ricas best regions for growing these specialty
nuts. In 1996, the company and five local growers established a
macadamia processing company, called SolCaribe
S.A.
The
machinery, imported from Australia, is the most modern and efficient
equipment available for the processing of macadamia.

SolCaribe
currently exports macadamia in a variety of forms, including wholes,
halves and pieces, to the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
The
nuts are carefully shipped in 25 lb. carton boxes, N flushed and
vacuum packed in aluminum foil bags.
The
SolCaribe
plant is a state of the art facility with capacity to process 500,000
pounds of kernel per year. The plant is projected to reach its capacity
once the shareholders orchards reach full maturity.
